Drinkstone Origins
The Drinkstone Texel flock was founded by the purchase of two females by the breed’s past President Douglas Nesbitt, on behalf of Drinkstone. One a pure Dutch import and the second being Champion in lamb gimmer from the Pipersmead Flock.

The next purchase was a Sportsman gimmer in lamb, plus a female from the Allanton reduction. The female to make the biggest impact on the Drinkstone flock was a female from Dick Neal’s, “Combe Slade,” she was by Lyons Omega. In the year 2000 60% of the flock was bred from this ewe.

The most Influential sire in the Drinkstone flock is “Millisle Dickie:” A big ram with excellent skin quality, he was used for four seasons, he had four crosses of Yogi Bear in his breeding.
Two East Middles rams have also left an impressive stamp. The first is a much sought after R1 genotype and again a very scopey sized ram. Lately the purchase of a half share of Richard Oates “Lumbylaw Kenya” has made a massive genetic input to the flock. He has the following credits:
• top ram lamb on Index in his year of birth;
• top Index stock Sire for two years;
• bred the top Index female
in the breed;
